Beckenham Junior Choir is fortunate to have as an advisor and supporter, internationally renowned tenor, Stuart Kale.

Born in S. Wales, Stuart was musically active from an early age as a boy treble. At Neath Grammar School, he played cello and double bass, joined the Glamorgan Youth Orchestra and Choir and also the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.


He went from school to the Guildhall School of Music where he attained his GGSM (1st Class)and LGSM in piano accompaniment. He also worked on the opera course under Vilem Tausky and Denis Maunder. He later won a Peter Moores Scholarship to study at the London Opera Centre which led to his first major professional contract with Welsh National Opera with whom he performed in the UK and also Spain and Switzerland. He then became a Professor of Singing at the Guildhall School and in the same year joined English National Opera where he remained as a Principal Tenor for 12 years singing many leading roles in a very varied repertoire and travelling with the company for its American tour, singing in, amongst other venues, the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. Some three years later Stuart left ENO to pursue a freelance career. This has taken him to all the major Opera Houses and Concert Halls of Europe, Canada, USA, Australia and South America.

In addition to his support and advice for Beckenham Junior Choir, Stuart has a busy teaching practice at home, including teaching members of BJC and BYV and also adults, both amateur and proffessional, and also teaches at a local prep school, St David's College. Since October 2007, Stuart has been Director of Music at St Etheldreda's Roman Catholic Church, Ely Place, London.
